EOP SUNY Stony Brook and Bing

hi - can anybody please explain the program more? I asked my guidance counselor about applying and she said the program would actually hinder my chances in getting into stony and Bing but didn’t specify… I have an 85 avg and 1240 sat (cr:590 m:650) 3 aps 1 honors and very shiny credentials and letters of rec. The sat score was from my junior year and I’ll be retaking it in two weeks and I’m sure I will do significantly better. I’m hesitant about applying for EOP now… what do I do? should I apply for regular admissions? is anyone else applying? :slight_smile:

@sbuadmissions

Good question. Students who indicate an interest in EOP are considered academically for that program first; if you’re eligible, then we look at your financial info. If you’re overqualified for EOP academically, then you’re automatically bumped into the regular applicant pool, so it’s not “harder” at all. Just different.

If I am eligible and then rejected for eop , will I still be allowed to enter through regular admissions? D: I’m worried because I really want to go to sbu and I hear EOP has very few spots and I think I’d have a better chance if I apply for regular admissions… @sbuadmissions thank you for replying!

When you apply EOP, one of three things happens. Either:

  1. you’re academically qualified, which means we ask for financial info
  2. you’re underqualified, in which case you are not offered admission
  3. you’re overqualified, in which case you’re bumped into the regular pool for consideration

So there’s no drawback, necessarily, to applying EOP; it’s just that the admissions criteria are different.
