EOP worth it?

i recently received a letter from sdsu asking me to apply for eop.

i am not sure if eop is worth pursing or not. the advantages are that i get priority registration for my classes and a possible $1k grant.

what do eop students do that are different from regular students?

(i just dont want to waste my time taking special classes or having special meetings to help me succeed. not that i feel that im better than anyone else but i think that i am capable of managing my own studies).

I have the same question

Besides priority registration and money for books, you also can attend Summer Bridge which allows you to take summer courses for free before you start your freshmen year and you also have access to an EOP academic advisor during your time at SDSU. This is big because the academic advisors for the various majors see so many students that they don't spend much time with each one individually.

There are also cultural events that are only for EOP students. I would definitely apply if I were you.

DO IT. I ignored it and heavily regret doing so. I had EOP at a junior college and transferred without applying for it again (negligence), and I could have used that extra money and priority registration is a must at SDSU.

What I did for EOP at my junior college was I had to attend a few meetings and meet with counselors to make sure I was on the right path etc. I didn't have to take any extra classes or anything. It's better for your growth, take my word for it and apply for it.

thanks for all the advice, i did apply and got in. i received the grant but it took away my fseog so it evens out to the same. hopefully priority registration will come in handy.

I don't think it was EOP grant that took away your FSEOG, it was most likely your cal grant b. Of course priority registration will come in handy, you get to register before everybody. The school has nearly 35K students and classes can be impacted particularly business classes. I'm a senior in my last semester and couldn't even land any morning classes. I think they do it alphabetically, which is absurd, they need to improve their registration system.
