ERC is not that bad

I have been trying to get out of ERC because it does not accept IGETC. I was under the impression that even with IGETC I would have to take 5 additional classes. That is not the case. An IGETC certified transfer's only GE requirement is to complete 3 Making of the Modern World courses. Although it is kind of a bummer that we cannot choose classes that better interest us, it is still only three classes. In comparison, it is the same number of classes required of Warren transfers, and only one more than Marshall, Muir, and Sixth transfers. (I think Revelle students are the ones who get truly boned)

I'm still on the waitlist to get out of ERC (4th at the moment), but if I get stuck there I won't be nearly as upset. Plus, as many of you have probably figured out, I could probably benefit from those writing classes more than anyone. (:

Here are the requirements General Education

lol ERC is second only to Revelle for worst college because of the GEs. MMW is one of the most dreaded series of classes there is at UCSD. It -is- that bad. Three classes of MMW spaced over three quarters haha

Well I guess bad is relative then. For me, as long as it doesn’t add on an extra quarter of attendance, I’m ok with it.

How do you check for your waitlist number? lol
By the way, in order to graduate at ERC as a transfer student, you must take 3 MMW + 2 regional specialization + upper division writing requirement (submit 12 pages essay from one of your regional class or a portfolio of all your papers so far for the regional courses). I don’t think its bad at all if you like writing; but for science nerd, it’s just dreadful xD

I talked to them today, if you have IGETC you only need the 3 MMW classes. I was the one who told you about the regional specialization courses and I was wrong. That is only for transfers without IGETC.

I still want out of ERC… I HATE writing, seriously I spend like 6 hours writing a paper and tweaking it until it feels like a masterpiece and then I get it back with a fat B- on it EVERYTIME give me number crunching and logic not writing!!! 2/3 upper division GE’s is fine by me as I’m interested in Econ, Physics etc. and would be happy to be able to take a few classes that seem cool (I wonder if you take classes out of your major for the engineering technical elective requirements if that fills the Warren GE as well)

from what I can tell if you have IGETC: warren requires 3 upper division GE out of your major, muir requires one writing class and Marshall seems to require no additional GE

@UCHopeful, that would be a great new if we only have to do 3 courses!! Well, I got my source from here [Eleanor Roosevelt College](http://www.ucsd.edu/catalog/front/ERoosevl.html)

What is the best college in UCSD anyway?

For transfers, I’d say Marshall. Overall though, Muir.

@Argo if you have igetc you don’t need to take the regional specialization. I just talked to Mitzy at erc (858) 534-9864 and she said it is confusing on the website but it doesn’t apply to transfer with igetc.

@UChopeful:

I was just looking through the EE curriculum (http://www.ece.ucsd.edu/docs/UGCourseRequirements.pdf</a>) and it requires 6 technical electives, 3 in science and engineering and 3 “professional electives (see general catalog)” electives. Do you think the professional electives would count for Warren upper div GE’s?

I hope we can quote her on that when we transferred xD Also, what about the upper-division writing requirement? Did you get a chance to ask her that as well?

Thanks for the info UChopeful :)

She actually said she was going to change the website because I wasn’t the only one confused by that. Not sure about the writing yet.

Also if anyone wants out of revelle, I want into revelle. I want to take the foreign language requirement

^What number did you call in to check your waitlist number for college change?

Admissions processing. She wasn’t going to tell me where I was on the waitlist until she realized I was close to the top. She did tell me that only one person has transferred out of ERC so far. She also counted something like 15 new e-mails from ERC students that came in during the weekend.

I’m not getting my hopes up and I’m fourth. I won’t give up trying, but I’ve already made peace with the fact I’m probably going to have to take those dreaded MMW courses.

I sent mine in right after they released their decision at around 4-5PM Friday. Hopefully, I won’t be too far from the list. >.<

I sent mine in on April 7th.

What are the differences between all of the colleges? I only checked out ERC because it was the one I got into…
