I was looking at Wake’s 2019 application, and noticed that the Top Ten List section lacked a place for the Theme. In past applications, they have all had a section for this. Did they change the question or is it a mistake on their part?
I’m not sure I understand your question. The question is designed to be open-ended so you can showcase your creativity and spotlight a subject that you find interesting. To my knowledge, the question has never had a Theme.
I looked back at my daughters application from 3 years ago and the question reads exactly the same.
WakeDad is right, it is intentionally without theme.
Sorry, I did not word my initial question well. Typically on the application, there is a box for the applicant to write a theme aka title to their list. An example “theme” would be, “Top Ten Favorite Songs” or something like that. It gives the list a meaning. On this year’s application, there is no space provided to write a title, just the numbers.
I wouldn’t worry about there not being a space for a “Title”. The question is designed to help them gain insight into your personality, interests and character.
As long as you stay away from things like “Top Ten Reasons I Hate School” or “Top Ten Reasons I Prefer Duke over Wake Forest”, you will be fine! :))
Thanks again for your input but once again I am afraid I am not getting my point across! I will try again! On the application it reads: “Give us your top ten” and then “10., 9., 8.___” and so on. There is no space, however, to write a title to the list, so the admissions people will not know what the theme of your list is.
In case I am still not explaining it well enough, I will include an example.
This question in past years has looked like this:
“Give us your top ten”
Theme:___________
10.
9.
8.
7.
6.
5.
and so on.
This year’s question looks like this:
“Give us your top ten”
10.
9.
8.
7.
and so on
The theme aka title tells the admissions office what your list is about. If your list were to be “Top Ten Reasons I Hate School” the admissions officers would not know that, they would just see the reasons.
Again, they purposefully left no room/space for theme.
I understand what the OP is saying. My son applied to Wake last year. The OP is correct. Last year there was a space to put the title of your top 10 list.
@wakeapp I get your concern and confusion, but of all the things to be worried about in the application and admission process, this is way down the list. I can promise you they will figure out your theme, especially if it’s the Top Ten Reasons You Hate School.
Good luck!
Go Deacs!
There was not a space for a theme when my daughter(Class of 2020) applied. She included the theme on the first line with the first item of the top 10 list. I think that Wake did this on purpose.
Class of 2019’s application didn’t have the space either. So maybe they went back to the way it used to be?
My son applied last year and there was defintely a space for a title. When my second son applied this year he added the title to the first line.
My son’s list would have made no sense to anyone without a theme so I totally get your concern. You could certainly call them and ask for clarification and I am sure they would be happy to help. Good luck!
