ESL grades affect transfer GPA?

Hello guys,

I am in a community college of California now.

When the first semester, my English skills are bad.

so I got too low grades in my ESL classes. (a lot B and C)

Do they affect my transfer GPA to UC?

My friend said transfer gpa doesn't contain ESL grade,

but I'm not sure yet.

And if I am a resident of CA, and have average GPA about 3.4~3.5 in cc,

Could I get a chance to transfer to UCLA or UCB??

thanks, have a nice day :)

NBreaker, I have "a lot" of ESL friends in my class, I don't see they have any problem at all... in fact, most of them get into Berk and LA. if i were you, I would just try to raise my gpa a little bit, at least above 3.5

thanks yazi.
sure I would try to get better gpa,
but just worried esl grades that I got before.

I got D in my first cc course, which is an esl course. I dun think UCs care about your esl couse as long as you get good grade in your english 1 and 2 courses.

I have a lower gpa than you, but I got in ucla. :D

shirleyxY, your opinion makes me happy.
really thanks :)

Well... UCs consider the GPA for all the courses that are transferable. I think some advanced ESL courses are transferable so keep your GPA up for those ones.

As a general rule: ALWAYS try to keep YOUR GPA high no matter what course you are taking. It is better to have an A in any class than not having it and feel sorry later. Just an opinion.

I have a trick to deal with esl course, just non-credit all of them. Then it won't affect gpa at all.

But I was so stupid at my early cc career. I didn't non-credit them. However, loads of people ssaid UCs just dun give about it, cuz there are English 1 and 2 to prove yourself. Just Check out ratemyprofessor.com to choose lenient teacher, it's easy to get A for eng 1 and 2.
