Hi, i want to write my college essay about overcoming this difficulty when it comes to asking a girl out. Also about overcoming the racial stereotypes that I needed to break. Basically I'm a shy asian who had a crush on this white girl, and asked out her out. In the end, we have a great relationship. This essay will show a challenge faced and present a unique and interesting story. I've read that essays about sex and dating were inappropriate, but would it be okay in this context?

I'm no adcom, but I don't see why it would be a problem.

...as long as you don't include something like: "Man, when I first saw this chick, I thought to myself, 'I gotta do her...I gotta.' So I did."

It sounds like a good essay to me -- unique and engaging, and you'd be able to write how you overcame your shyness as well as racial stereotypes. I'd suggest you tone down actual relationship part (maybe just have a sentence saying how great it turned out?) and focus more on your personal transformation through asking her out.

to be straightforward, sounds pretty bad.

LOL setzer--yeahh, follow that advice :D

&& agreed with icesplendor.

it sounds good
it could turn out to be really interesting if you word it right lol

I agree. It's like putting "dating" as an EC.

not true
i'm sure if he wrote about overcoming personal obstacles (like shyness) it could work
some of the best essays are about random things like pimples (yale) or videogames (mit), you should have to make it work
of course it could be a complete trainwreck but that's the risk (and the fun part) :D

i think it'll be good if you write it the right way
