I have a few questions regarding the essay for the common app. Let me start by warning that English is not really my strongest subject. Like everyone applying to college, I have written and rewritten my essay. I just don’t want to be a cliche in my essay. I have read the forms, articles, and blogs and know that there is no real formula to writing this thing, that the admissions people don’t want to hear the same story told in thousands of ways. Any advice how to really “rock em soc em?” I scraped everything I did and am starting over. I’m applying for a marketing degree at FIU and NSU.
Is it to cliche to open with a quote or memory?
How can I really make myself unique and not like every other applicant in this essay?
Opening your essay with a quote is extremely cliche but can work if the quote is powerful/relevant enough. Whatever you do, just make sure that your essays express great passion. That is the key to writing a winning essay. -Admissions Track
