MIT says to limit it to 500 words, but.... mine is ~700. I've been trying to cut it down, but I think I can cut it down like a max of 100 more words. =/

Do you think that's okay?

Same, mine is GOING to be like 1000 words, so I NEED to cut it down. What I was thinking is I could explain some of my essay to the interviewer, and then write the fundamentals of it on the app. Any suggestions?

I don't know if this will help at all, but I would try to get the essay to fit on one page of their print preview scheme. I know my essay was 600 words and fit (with some room left over). I think when it takes up more than one page on their format is when it comes off as "overly long." Then again, I have absolutely no idea. Just a friendly suggestion : ). Good Luck!

My feeling is that you should try to stay within 10% of the word limit, but 600 would probably be okay if you really can't cut it down further.

Concise is good.

I think they say that it should be within 50 words over or under 500, so you will need to cut it down. Try to avoid overexplaining things; show, don't tell. :)

My essay was 616 words, and I got in, which doesn't really mean a whole lot, but they probably won't care if you cut all the fluff.

As long as the words flow with your essay, the length is OKAY. If you cut it further down and it misses some key points or changes the tone drastically, it would not be good. If you think you have reached the threshold of cutting, DO NOT cut it further down.

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL CCers.
