Essay Dilemma

Hey all,

So I’m applying to a university that doesn’t admit by major, but one of its essay prompts is as follows:

Tell us about a topic or idea that excites you and is related to one or more academic areas you selected above (referring to the previous question, which asks you to select three potential majors). Why are you drawn to it?

I wrote an essay that I think is really good (and one that I really like), but the problem is, it’s related to the major I’ve marked as my second choice. Most of my activities are related to my first choice major (and the two are not connected at all), so I can’t reasonably just switch the order.

Would it be worth changing my essay’s topic to match my first choice? Or does it not matter since the school doesn’t admit by major, anyways? It seems like the prompt is a bit of a modified “Why major,” so I just want to make sure I’m not missing anything by taking it at full face value.

You’re overthinking.

It’s not.

Reread the prompt. It does not say “is related to the top academic area…”

Take it at face value.
