Essay in the Supplement

<p>So you can upload a document or type in the box. The limit for the box is 2000 characters. So does the uploaded document have to be 2000 characters too?</p>

<p>There's no way for the CommonApp system to record the number of characters in an uploaded doc. So you can make your essay longer than 2000 char if you really want to. Remember, though, that there are diminishing returns to a longer essay: you're more likely to ramble, and the admissions officer is more likely to get bored.</p>

It is almost always true when applied to essays as well, though. Only keep sentences/words that are central to your essay -- rambling, redundancy and useless sentences will get major points off. :/</p>
