Essay lengths anyone?

How long are yall's two essays to Vanderbilt's supplement app? Does anyone know the 'reccommended' length?

at most I would say 2.5 pages double spaced. Mine was 2 last year.

wow 2? I was thinking like 250 words. Do they expect people to write about a page length - 2 page lengths?

which essay? one of mine is like 500 (the "why do you want to attend Vanderbilt" one) and another is like 380. I think 250 would be fine, considering thats what I had at first, but I added some stuff aboutt aking different classes

the "what academic interests willl you have at vandy" is about 300.. and i havent' started on the other essay yet. I guess i'll try and aim for 350-400 words. I don't want to seem like i dont care on the essay by writing something really short.

My son's essays last year were about a page double-spaced for the Why Vanderbilt? essay (350 words approx.) and about a page and a half for the Academic Interest essay (about 525 words). I don't think length is the most important thing. It's what you say, not how long it is. By the way, he was accepted RD and received significant merit scholarship.

Oops! I got those essay lengths confused. The Why Vanderbilt? essay was the longer one (about 525 words) and the Academic Interest Statement was about a page (about 350 words). Sorry.

This question has come up a few times before. I believe my son only wrote a couple of paragraphs on each topic for "Why Vandy?" and "Academic Interest" statement. His weren't long at all. He got in to Vanderbilt with significant scholarship as well. My guess is length isn't as important as what you say.

Write as much as you need to make your personality and opinions shine through. Both my why vanderbilt and academic interest interest statement essays were around 650 words. The maximum an admissions officer wants to read is one page.

My Why Vandy essay was about 390 words long, and my Academic Interest Statement was 540.

I don't think there's an unspoken word limit for these essays- they just want to see if you're really passionate about going to Vandy and if you're knowledgeable about the school.

Though, as a rule, I think if your essays end up being like a 1000 words long, make sure they're reeeaallly good before you submit them. You don't want to bore adcoms.
