Essay Topic #5

would this be a bad topic to choose? is it too "unoriginal" and "unchicago"? if i use it will they hold it against me for not writing about transporting myself from the moon or mustard? i wrote an essay that would fit this topic for the common app and i liked it soooo much. of course the wording of the question sux but ill fix that later.

"Numbers are a part of everything: literature, sports, and of course science. How are numbers a part of you?"

I think you could develop the your assertion. I wrote a #5 essay which was basically a tailored prompt for an essay that I wanted to write. If your essay is good, i.e. if you have something worth saying, it should go over well.

thanks qwert. would you or someone whos already applied mind reading my essay? thanks again.

also, congrats on your acceptance!

thanks kosuke. you can email it to me if you want.

just wondering but.....whats your email address?
thanks

qwertykhalsa@yahoo.com no problem

It sound like an possibly interesting topic, but it also has the potential to be trite and dull, If you like your essay, then I guess you can go ahead. I've posted this before, but keep in mind, during prospective student day, the AO talking to us said she thought #5 was risky "because how could you think up more original topics than the ones we posted?" I had the impression they were really proud and delighted with their essay topics. The last thing they seem to want is the type of essay you'd do for the common ap.

Yeah, I'm in the same situation right now. I have a great essay I want to use for U of C but I'm not sure since it's not one of their questions...

the reason the admissions officer gave for their quirky prompts was that they were bored with reading the run of the mill ones that are circulated around the other top colleges, and that, basically, they wanted to have fun while reading them. so, if your essay is not typical, they should at least give it a chance. They dont seem to prefer accepting their own prompts versus ours.

hmmmm......i hope mines not TOO boring....

Mine was not completely off the wall by any means (I wrote about my bedroom...and the Mafia...) and I got in.

I made mine up, but pretty much connected it to chicago's prompts.. Prompt: Insanity can often spawn genius. Envision yourself insane and guide us through your mind as you contemplate a University of Chicago prompt.

i just made my own up so that i could do it in the format i wanted to... i think it makes more sense if you read the actual essay.
