Essay topic help needed! Is my topic acceptable?

I was thinking about writing about the person who has influenced you. My only problem is I've never met that person before. It was my uncle, and he died before I was born. Would this still be ok to write about? If so, how do I describe being influenced by someone I have never met? I have heard about what a great person he was, the impact he had on people, the whole 9 yards, and I strive to be like him, but how do I convey that in an essay?

any thoughts?

I’m very sorry that you never had the chance to meet your uncle.

There is a host of potentially “most influential people” that a student likely has never met…Martin Luther King, Robert Kennedy, Barack Obama, firefighters at 9/11, etc.

It would be interesting to hear why you strive to be like your uncle, as opposed to, say, other good people in your family that you have met and do know in person. Maybe you are saying something about how close you are to your family…that someone that they unanimously admire, love, and respect is necessarily someone that you admire, love, and respect?
