I know the idea is to show that you're unique and reveal your best personal quaities, but I can't think of many good essay topics.

Here are my ideas:

1) Talk about my work on the school newspaper. How I was a math kid before hand, didn't really want to go, but I wnet to broaden my horizons. It has truly given me a good sense of work ethic, how to meet deadlines, work with people, and made me a better writer. I am an editor, lost election for editor-in-chief, but still one of the main leaders on staff.

2) Tak about my travels around the world, broadening my horizons, learning about diversity and understanding others. I've been to Mexico, Thailand, Spain, England, Greece, Italy, France. I've seen the longneck tribe in Thailand and visited the Red Cross in Bangkok as they sent supplies away to Pukhet after the awful tsunami. This is interesting but I'm not sure how they'll view it or whether or not I can write a truly good essay.

3) I had an idea, forgot what it was. I'll post back when I remember it, though hahah. Sorry.

Which one sounds best to adcoms?

1 can be summed up in your “Elaborate on one club” short answer portion on the app, so I think it’d fit better there. As for 2, I’d say focus on just ONE experience from there. Just going places isn’t all that interesting - the schools don’t want to admit what you’ve seen, they want to admit you. Thus, you should pick a particular event and focus on how it helped shape who you are. If you don’t think you can write a good essay on the topic, though, just don’t do it. 3 has some potential :P

I don’t think I can cover the newspaper in 150 words. Maybe I could talk about one of my other ECs there (Key Club editor or Spanish Honor Society president) and then do my main essay about newspaper?

Sure, as long as you’re bringing something new about yourself to the table.

If you’d like, you can PM it to me when you’re done and I’ll give it a once-over. Of course, if you have a number of ideas, you can always write a few essays and choose afterwards which you like the best (when I applied as a senior in high school, and then again for transfer, I wound up going through a few different essays before finally liking one enough to send out).
