Can anyone tell me the application essay topics for this past year? Son is trying to get an early start and wonders about subject matter.

ah, so hes talking about it again :D thats a good sign.

Thanks for your support, Taffy. Down to one final and one more paper, so he's talking again period. I'm grateful just for that. I feel for you kids. So much pressure. In my day, most of us were too dumb to know we should worry.

did your son get a phone call today from the academy? i got one and they pretty much asked if i wanted to do the shadow a cadet for a day thing, i said no. they asked if i was planning on applying when applications are out, this summer, and i said yes. he talked about how not getting in AIM wouldnt hurt me in admissions. i asked him about the lottery thing and he said they had 3000 applicants, 490 slots, and 350 slots went to lottery people. i didnt catch how many lottery candidates there were, and i didnt catch how many people who had STARTED the application, COMPLETED it. last year the numbers were at like 1200 applied, 1000 complete applications, 500 accept, 490 attend.

has your son heard anything of the dodmerb? the rejection letter said they would contact me about it but i havnt heard anything since.

Wow, interesting numbers. No, my son didn't get that call. He did get a form letter today saying, "If you're interested in the Academy, why not plan a family visit and see what we're about?" We visited two years ago, and after all the paper required for the AIM application, I think he has a sense of 'what we're about.' What's "dodmerb"? (He's got the lottery/rejection stashed somewhere and I forget.)

dodmerb = The Department of Defense Medical Examination Review Board, its a physical you have to take to commission.

So, would it be fair to say that if they got accepted to AIM and not through the lottery, that would be a good thing?

yes, but i have a feeling they wouldnt tell people they were in the lottery unless they got rejected.

Hi;
We're new to this group, but my daughter is very interested in the CGA.
She's a 4.0 GPA student, 2100 in SAT's, excellent softball player with DI colleges recruiting her.
She has no military academy experience and is not a member of the ROTC.
Questions;
1. Does she have a legimate chance at admission to the CGA?
2. What does AIM mean?

Yes I would say she has an excellent shot...they have a good softball program but it is Division III. AIM is the summer program for rising seniors; a week introducing candidates to the school.
Questions:what year is she? If she's going to be a senior it's too late for her to participate in AIM. But they do have a program called "beansprouting" in which a candidate comes to the academy and trails a student and stays over a night or so.
Also, does she have any leadership positions in school or extracurriculars? Those are important. Doesn't have to be in a ROTC group. Could be in scouts or community service.
This year 28% of the class are women. It's a great opportunity for young men and women in a small school atmosphere.
