Topic for College Essay: Many students expand their view of the world during their time in college. Such growth often results from encounters between students who have lived different cultural, economic, or academic experiences. With your future growth in mind, describe a potential classmate that you believe you could learn from either within or outside a formal classroom environment.
Do you think they are asking to describe a specific person that exists or a figurative person? I’m assuming they pretty much want me to describe somebody that is different than me and how I can learn from him/her.
Has anybody else written an essay like this? How did you handle it?

I think they're asking you to describe an imaginary person whose qualities, personalities, activities, contributions will help you grow as a person like:
I imagine one of my potential classmates to have traveled the world, and to share their experiences with me...etc

UT Austin, yeah? I'm having trouble with that one, too. I'm going to describe a person I'd like to meet, so yeah, an imaginary person should do the trick.

Yeah UT !!!! LOL
Im having trouble too, with that question......I'm with lilybbloom on this one...... wow lily your from france and want to attend UT??? thats awesome! What are you gonna major in???

Not from France, nope, I'm here studying French here for a year as a way of taking some time off before college ... I'm from the US but I actually went to highschool in Mexico, if you'll believe that.

UT Austin isn't my top choice because they don't have one of the two majors I'm interested in (Intl. relations). If I end up going there (for financial reasons most likely) I hope to be able to major in Journalism. It's a great school though and if it weren't for the major situation it'd probably be my top choice.

Yup it's for UT-Austin. Kind of a different topic, but I guess you've gotta do what you've gotta do. Have you guys already submitted you app. to UT?

Lilybloom, you do have quite the interesting story....from US, high school in Mexico, now in France, college in US. wow.
