Does it have to be 600/200/200? or can I do 500/300/200? Just wondering how strict they are not only on the 1000 word limit, but also on the breakdown. Thanks in advance.

i also am wondering on the same thing

I third the above posts. So let me get this straight... The total word count has to be equal to or below 1000? Can it be something like 612/200/210?

Personally, I'd rather not take my chances. If they say 600/200/200, it's going to be 600/200/200 and not a word different.

I don't know if you are applying on-line, but the online application does set some limits. I know because I pushed them. The on-line application definitely won't let you write more than exactly 1000 words (I used up 999 of them). The app also didn't allow my long essay to be longer than 630. My word distribution was something line 627/210/162.

Also, the application actually doesn't say that the essays have to be exactly 600/200/200. It does say that the maximum is exactly 1000, and that the long essay should be "at least" 600 words, and that the short essays should be "limited" to "approximately" 200 words each.

actually, i got more than a 1000 word total for the online app. mine were 612/207/220. so you can probably stretch it a bit.

yeah right now i have 498/298/198
6 words from 1000, but not the 600/200/200

you can strech up to 1030 w/ no problem, the online app allows you

If you can put in more than 1000 words, then put them in. It's not like they'll say "Oh, this guy went over 20 words, let's not read the extra sentence."

agh, the 200's are killing me.

all 1000 of it is killing me

How does 625ish words for the long essay sound? I'm trying to find a sentance or two to shorten/cut but I just can't seem to let any of them go. I really want to be careful with this because I am a borderline applicant and don't want to ruin my chances.

Crap I've been rewriting my essay and now I'm at 642 words. Is this too much??

That's probably okay. But I wouldn't go over that if I were you.

so, according to a post above, the long essay has to be AT LEAST 600 words? I was trying to shorten that one to about 580 so I could add 20 more words to the first shorter essay. I'm assuming that would still be ok... but now I'm a bit worried

fuzzylogic: did you successfully submit your application with essays 39 words over the limit?

i do hope so!

i'm at: 604/227/211 = 1042, and still cutting...
i think i'm going to try for <1030

chopping essays makes me sad :'(

@quickflood: yeah, it went through without a problem.

thanks, i guess my last resort is going over by 40
