for the essays on the sat writting section, are the graders expecting a straightfoward almost "informative" paper, or will using descriptive languague such as metaphors help to improve the grade? im stuck at 9, and im not sure what i should do to make it to the next tier. any advice is welcome. thanks!

for your essay, i'd say length and organization is most important. they know you only have 25 minutes to do it, so make it easy to follow (organization, etc) and concise. using big words once or twice a paragraph is ok, but dont overdo it. also, use factual evidence (such as historical facts) rather than hypothetical situations that could be easily made up ("My friend's mom once encountered a similar situation...") hope that helps.
