essayscoop?

Found a message in my inbox about this from a while ago. Their mission at least sounds interesting, but I wasn't able to find much news about it.

Has anyone actually used this site, either from the data science perspective or just as an end-user?

I'm curious, while their system may have some predictive power, how much insight can machine learning techniques actually provide for someone writing an essay? Typical ML/NLP techniques don't really give human-interpretable results or even causal results for that matter. Although I see they're using tensor decomposition techniques for topic modeling, which could potentially yield something interesting.

I’ve used it a couple of times and it seems interesting to say the least. I think they’re trying to use the machine learning techniques to see what colleges like what types of essays. For example, Harvard would like essays that are a lot different from essays that Kansas State likes. I think machine learning would be interesting to implement in this case.

From their website, it seems like they are still pretty new so they are probably trying to get more students for their database. That way they can actually apply these machine learning techniques. If you guys want to check them out their website is www.essayscoop.com/about.

I think this idea could really work if they got enough people to start using it.
