establishing residency in idaho

Can anyone tell me how difficult it was to establish residency in idaho if one lives on campus? Are they lenient or strict with the qualifications? Thank you!

Do you live in a state that is part of WUE/WICHE? Might be easier and only cost a slight bit more.

Generally you can’t establish residency at any school while attending school. And sometimes each school in a state will have slightly different rules. You can usually google the name of the school and the word residency to find the info. You can start with the U Idaho link in post #1.

Out of state tuitions are not penalties against out of state students. They are there because state schools are subsidized though income taxes. State schools were created to serve state residents.

People support state schools when they pay income taxes so their tuition coat is lower than what it costs nonresident students.

You can attend YOUR draw schools for instate tuition. Would you like your state taxes to go up so that students from other states can attend for that same subsidized price?

Also students do not “live” on campus. They stay there while taking classes. They “live” at whatever their legal address is which is usually the parental home. They keep their drivers license at the home address, the IRS maintains that address, etc. the school billing address works the same way.

Except where it is allowed to become a state resident while living in the dorms. Check Utah and Missouri.
