estimate the lenght of your app

mine::

10 pages of the app + 4 pages essay #1 + 3 pages essays #2 and 3 + 2 page GC rec + 4 teacher recs, 1 optional, 10 pages? + interview, one page? + transcript + 8 page full activities list + 5 page academic writing sample + 10 page piano composition + test scores + 5 page packet of poetry + 10 page essay contest winner...so 78 pages?

Yeah, I know this is a useless topic. Oh well, it's second semester of senior year and I'm sick of homework. (for now.)

why are ur essays so long? each of my essays were 1 page each....why do u have 4 teacher recs? im so confused haha i had
app, 4 pages for all essays, 2 pages for each rec (i had 3), transcript, interview....i sent nothing else...i dont think i even break 20 haha

lol....my other two teachers begged me to let them write on my behalf.......and so they screw me over!?!?!?!? (see harvard forum....)

my essays, why so long? haha....they had pictures.....lol

my 15 page app plus a 60 page gigantic thesis...(actually small for a thesis though)...+ an econ research paper. BEAT THAT :p

holy crap, you guys sent wayyyy too much stuff :P

As my interviewer said....the more they know about the applicant, the better it is. I mean it's better for them to see a college level thesis written by a 15 year old rather than just reading that I have done one in a rec letter. its obvious they wont read it all, but at least they'd have an idea of the quality of work and what the applicant is capable of...so my total package would bw 100 pages including my econ research. it sounds ridiculuous, but who knows what gets us in?

maybe i got in cuz i saved trees =P. oh wait i submitted mine online too so really it was like 5 pages :D

Wow, I've never heard of people submitting such things - 60 page thesis, wow. I thought there were rules against people sending in excessive supplemental materials, but I guess not.

I think it's definately something that will make you two stand out from the pack, good thinking.

hmmmmm

maybe I should follow callthecops' example and send my 42 page thesis on Othello....

I don't know if sending huge supplements is a good thing... I remember from an info session at Yale that they will read EVERY page of your app, but if you send them a 50 page paper to read, they may not be in a good mood after it, no matter how great it was. I don't know if Pton is the same way, but I would think it is.

was it a thesis or a research paper? I sent in a bound volume of my research on Third Culture Kids... I could have also included 500 questionnaires that i sent out to int'l schools around the world, and copies of the 100 interviews i took in intl schools in korea, + even the reams of paper i used for number crunching, but that would have definitely got outta control :p,

btw what was the thesis of ur paper MzLover?

ilovemath, im not sure about that. They never really read the 50 pages...they usually would read the abstract, some bits here and there in the middle, and the conclusion. all in all, about 5 or 10 minutes total. i mean if it is really professionally done, i think it would make a dif. ie. they need to know that it was serious RESEARCH that i did, and i put a full semester into gathering 500 survey results and 100 interviews + number crunching etc. I agree with u on the point that the adcoms COULD get annnoyed, but only if the paper is crappy and is really pointless, and looks like some 1st draft of a paper ud submit to a teacher in high school that deserves a C-

It's entitled "Iago and his Problems" (after T.S. Eliot's considerably shorter "Hamlet and his Problems.")

cool....40 pages?? wow...I did a research paper on Heart of Darkness for my AP Lit class (10 pages), dunno if uv read the book, but its AWESOME. mine was Heart of Darkness: A Journey to the Self. Very very Zen like in theme...

at duke they say "the thicker the app, the thicker the kid"

LOL!!!!! not true! not at all!!

yeah lol, but its a catchy saying.

btw. u guys have seen the amherst vid? i heard the adcom just threw out an app cuz the kid had a D in math in soph year....

I'd like to know more about that case. I was really surprised and somewhat irritated that they didn't even attempt to find out if there was a legitimate reason for the low grade.

yeah...im curious too. google it and maybe ul find some info.
