Hi, is there much diversity at Hofstra? I'll be honest, I hear that it's pretty conservative, which concerns me because my son is Arab-American and has lived all of his life in the Middle East and he wants to be somewhere where students are open-minded and welcome diversity.

I think that much of Long Island is not very ethnically diverse (I’m local) but I really don’t think that this applies to Hofstra. From what I have seen of the campus, it is a thriving and diverse community. We have been on campus many times for Continuing Ed/Youth classes, theatre performances, poetry readings, etc.

^Sandkmom- Really? I find that Long Island is very ethnically diverse and I too live here. I think the New York City suburbs in general is diverse and welcoming. From visits and family who attended Hofstra University, I’d say that it is pretty diverse.

Yes, Penny Lane. Having grown up in Suffolk County, lived in Brooklyn for 10 years and lived in Nassau County for 10, my take is that Long Island is not overly diverse. I will say that can vary by neighborhood, though.
