ethnicity conflict

So for college apps. Would it be better for me to check the Asians box or check other and write down Pakistani? I'm saying this b/c according to some people, Pakistan is considered to be part of the middle east as well. And obviously I would prefer not to be lumped together with the other oober asian geniuses (no offense - stereotype of college not mine lol) if i can obviously help it. thanks!

bump :( anyone?

I have quite a few Pakistani friends (from NY as well)- I checked with them- they're all putting down "Other- Pakistani."

If I were you I would definitely do Other - Pakistani

I don't think your being South Asian (Pakistani, Indian, Banglasheshi) will be viewed any different than other Asians. I think that the "uber asian genius" label applies to your ethnic group, too.

thanks everyone!

Write Pakistani if you want. If they have a problem you can just say that their being racist =P turn the AA Tables biatch!!!

screw AA...

Also, from the experience of a friend, I know being a Muslim woman heavily turns the tables in your favor (given, this was for and MBA admit, but still).

does it REALLY????
I'm a Pakistani Muslim woman (but how do I show them I'm a Muslim?...)
and I checked Asian....on the Common App, I checked Asian (including Indian subcontinent)...so definitely pick Asian because Pakistan is in the Indian subcontinent.....right?

Woah- if I told any of my Pakistani friends that they were from the Indian subcontinent they'd probably try to murder me.

dude, I'm Pakistani...and I always thought that was true...since they were one nation and all...

enlighten me Johnson181...what am I supposed to put down?

I have no idea, honestly, as I'm a little white girl. I shared what all of my Pakistani friends are doing, as they would know far more than I.

Quite a few years ago a girl once yelled at me for five minutes for implying that they were the same nation...

you are still part of the INDIAN subcontinent

Pakistan was once part of India and is only a country today because of some horrible decisions that were made in the past.

but they were the same nation, 60 years ago

I know that. But clearly not the same nation anymore.

right but the land is still considered part of the subcontinent...you can still put Other but...you're still brown.

well, yes, but aren't they still both in the Indian Subcontinent?

I'm just wondering, because that's what I always thought :/

they both are yes.

thank you

10 char
