I'm Korean.
If i am going to apply to UVA, should I state an ethnicity in CommonApp or not answer.

Honestly, that’s up to you. Putting it on will not help you in the least, and it can negatively impact your chances. However, by leaving it blank, your being a bit dishonest. The adcoms by now know that if it’s left blank, it’s mostly for strategic reasons. Also, do you or a parent have obviously Korean names?

^ I disagree. [You have every legal right to leave the section blank.](<a href=“http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/14635841-post12.html"]You”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/14635841-post12.html)

Oh course you have the legal right, hence why I said its all up to the OP. And that last part about last names not being enough to tell the ethnicity… Come on. I’m saying if the person has an obviously Asian last name and leaves the race section blank, there is a HUGE chance of the applicant being Asian. Why would an URM leave it blank? They wouldn’t.

If you want to show your honesty, fill it out. If you want to avoid being labeled, then leave it blank. This is just my 2 cents.
