<p>The definition/interpretation of race is quite murky, especially when it comes to what groups call themselves. For example, I am African American and what I hope that tells people about me is that my parents were born and raised in Nigeria and recently immigrated to the United States. On the other hand, others call themselves African American, and rightfully so, although their ancestors have been on this continent for centuries. If it were up to me, there would be no need to classify ourselves as one thing or another, especially when we can be influenced by so many different cultures, but unfortunately the world is not such a place.</p>
