Thanks for the tip, walkinghome. My old version is still going strong but I will definitely keep that in mind when it bites the dust!
@lookingforward I hope that alternative julienne thingy works just as well… I just ordered one!

How about this one: Has anyone heard of or used Pomi chopped tomatoes from Italy in a box container, not a can. I just came from the supermarket & bought two. It was recommended to me so I bought some. I use a lot of tomatoes in many recipes so I thought I’d give these a try. They look great, no additives or preservatives, etc.

Yes, love it…
Also, I love the tomato paste that comes in a squeeze tube (like a toothpaste tube).
Amazon box came today and the microwave egg cooker was in it…can’t wait until tomorrow to try it out!
I guess I need to get that egg cooker! We hard boil a dozen eggs a week. But really…is the microwave one that much easier than a pot of,water?
I will never boil another egg on the stove, and that is said after only having it 2 days! You put some water in the base, set your eggs in the holders, cover it, set the microwave and it’s done. As @BunsenBurner said, easy peasy!
You put your eggs in a pot on the stove, bring to boil, turn off heat and let sit for 23 minutes, and they are done. I need to get RID of kitchen stuff, not get more, so I think I will continue to boil my eggs…
^ that’s where I am, lots of gadgets. But tempted. Someone tell me what to think of the amazon reports the eggs can explode in the cooker. (I do admit an egg exploded in a pan when I let the water boil out :-SS )
I’m finding myself tempted by the microwave egg cooker, too, but I promised myself long ago that I would never buy “one trick pony” kitchen gadgets. N o banana slicer for me. Ok, so I have a toaster and a coffee maker, but that is it.
Well, because each Bunsen eats 2 eggs for breakfast, for me this cooker makes a huge difference! I’ll take 10 minutes over 30 (boil plus sit), because I don’t have 30 minutes to fix breakfast! I start the eggs, serve yogurts with berries, make coffee, then get the eggs out of MW and serve them - and by then, we are already half way through breakfast. Efficiency! I should have taken the job at Amazon. JK!
@doschicos I agree with the “one trick pony” premise, but this cooker is rather small, so it’s not some big thing taking up cupboard space. And since it’s for eggs and not some food that we rarely eat (hotdog cooker?? lol), I can justify it.
It looks like it takes about 8 minutes in the micro and then wait 2 minutes before removing. That’s just about the time it takes me to feed the pets, give meds and insulin shot.
@BunsenBurner do you wait the 2 minutes and then run the eggs under cool water and remove shells?
I hate boiling water, waiting for water to boil, watching for water to boil, draining boiled water from a pan…
@mom2collegekids - I have to admit I was thinking of the hot dog cooker when I wrote the one trick pony line.
lol… every time I see one I wonder who buys those…must be a gag gift.
I open the MW to let the steam out, then I grab a couple of plates, a towel to grab the metal tray out of the cooker… stumble over the cats on the way to the sink… I assume it takes up to 2 min before the eggs get their cold shower under the kitchen faucet.
The hot dog cooker makes more sense than the pizza-sized electric quesadilla maker a friend’s daughter received as a going-away-to-college present.
The egg cooker is appealing because you can just put it in the microwave and not have to tend to it. It takes some experimenting, but the most efficient way is to undercook it a bit and let it sit in the microwave until it cools enough to touch. (i.e., if it says to cook it for 8 minutes, cook it for 7 and let it continue to cook while resting). There is really no need to run the eggs under cold water; they will peel easily without that step.
@lookingforward, I’ve had the eggs explode a couple times but it was due to user error. It’s a matter of making sure that the lid is secure.
I understand not wanting another useless gadget, but if you eat hard boiled eggs regularly, I think it’s worth a try. Since it’s not that pricey, you can always just toss it if you’re not happy with it. But I think you will become a believer!
Because there is SOOOO much extra space in a freshman student’s dorm room for one trick pony appliances.
Lol!!! Guess what kitchen gizmo baby kiddo used the most?

Worked well in her dorm room, in the “apple city”, and in her grad apartment in B-more.
Bet that works great for the boxed wine sangria parties!
I bought this for my son a couple years ago and he laughed at me. But now admits that he uses it at least twice a week. He loves pasta.
