My favorite thing about the egg cooker (which I’ve had for one day now) is that the shells practically fall right off. No sticking, no need to look for little bits of shell that you might have missed. It’s downright amazing.
Wow, I bought the egg cooker from Amazon and it came today, too… I wonder if Amazon can see a pattern developing from CC threads?
@zipyourlips Did you use older eggs or newly purchased ones?
They have a “best by” date of 8/21. I know older eggs are likely to be easier to peel, but I have never had the shells slip off like these did.
I just looked at the egg cooker again and it’s now $13.09 with only 1 left in stock! Wasn’t it under $7.00 when it was first mentioned? My hesitation is that we get very fresh eggs from local people. I won’t call them farmers because they have normal jobs and sell eggs on the side. Fresh eggs never peel well. Will this work with them?
It was $7?? Wow!
I had a $10 giftcard and just tried to take the shell off an egg I boiled yesterday (yes I know…) and it was a mess. So for $3 I ordered a gizmo. But it wasn’t a prime eligible item. Free shipping, but not prime.
** eta its $7 at Target http://www.target.com/p/nordicware-egg-boiler/-/A-694599 (but not sold in stores)
Try looking up Amazon without going through this posted link. Or wait a week or two. For some reason the more a link is looked at sometimes the price goes down–then up drastically. Not the first time it’s happened to me.
Interesting info @gouf78.
Yes, the egg cooker was 6,99 with Prime Shipping.
Mine came last night. I opted for the delayed shipping so I could get the $5 credit from Prime Panty lol
Used it this morning. Yay!!! Used Eggland’s Best eggs bought about a week ago, so not brand new, and the shells came off easily.
I did what was recommended upthread, reduced cooking time by 1 minute so the eggs could continue cooking while “resting,” while I made coffee, fed pets, administered their meds and so forth. So the MW cooked for 7 minutes, then they sat for a few minutes (the instructions say rest for 2 mins, but mine rested for about 4-5 mins). Ran them under cool water, then …Shelled, lightly salted with cracked pepper…perfect!
I liked letting them sit longer because they weren’t as hot to handle.
When I pulled up the pasta cooker link, Amazon had both the pasta maker and the egg cooker together as a recommended ‘often purchased together’…
@anxiousmom I am surprised your boiling eggs take so long. Is it due to your elevation? As soon as our eggs are boiling in the cook top, we turn off the heat and set the timer for 10 min.
You gals (and any guys) drove the $ up to 9.99 and no longer Prime, so std shipping is showing 6.95.
I wonder if Amazon is playing games, because the pasta cooker came up with free shipping but it had a huge price jump with ordering more than one.
Sheesh, I don’t even LIKE hard boiled eggs and I’m tempted to get an egg cooker!!!
I like a soft-boiled egg but those are tricky. Anyone try the egg cooker for that?
@notelling the instructions give a soft-boiled cooking time.
I can tell that if I had reduced the cooking time, the eggs would have been soft-boiled, which I’m assuming mean that that the whites are cooked/nearly fully cooked, and the yolks are still soft/runny.
I make a dozen hard boiled eggs at once…for the week. I boiled the water, put the eggs in for 14 minutes…immediately rinse in coldest water…done.
Seems like that would take me less time than the microwave thing every day.
@JustaMom5465, I wasn’t an egg person until very recently. I’ve discovered that the key to a delicious egg is proper cooking. Eggs should not be hard boiled to death. (It’s similar to taking a fine piece of filet mignon and ruining it by overcooking it). For me, eggs are perfect when they are soft with a little give and an underdone yolk. I also did not like fried eggs, but I’ve figured out a way to cook them where they are just divine. I eat eggs every morning and crave them throughout the day. They are a cheap, nutritious and easy way to get the protein that I need. I also think they have been key in helping me to maintain my weight.
@nottelling, I have never intentionally cooked soft boiled eggs in the microwave cooker. However, I’ve really enjoyed them if I somehow miscalculated the cooking time. The egg cooker really is flexible in how hard or soft you want it; it just requires a little experimentation.
I eat eggs daily, poached with the silicone egg poacher pods. They take up hardly any room in my alley kitchen.
The egg cooker does sound like a speedy way to start a day.
My favorite kitchen tool is the mango slicer. We have four mango trees. It is my time saver.
Thanks for the recommendation on the Caudalíe book.
@arabrab- I grabbed a couple of those quesadilla makers at garage sales when I ran the high school snack bar for soccer and track. They were the best thing I ever spent $8 on (total for 2) They ran continuously as quesadillas became our most popular item. They made perfect quesadillas every time. When my son graduated, I left them as the last thing I need at home is a quesadilla maker!!
