So I have applied as a transfer student for Winter 2011 but had a fairly low GPA and am really sweating admission. I am considering enrolling in the Evening Degree Program if I am not accepted, but have several reservations...

-I am planning on applying to law school after graduation and would like to use the elective courses (like Philosophy's intro to logic and Technical Writing) to help prepare me for the LSAT. The evening degree program does not let students take classes with the regular day programs except with "special permission". I've already spoken with an adviser in the evening degree program and she stated that my pre-law interests were not "good enough reasons" to be "allowed" to take a regular day program class.

-I want to join the pre-law society and generally otherwise be involved in the student body. I would assume that most clubs and functions meet in the evenings (between 4:30pm and 8:30pm, the evening degree class meetings)

-Classroom atmosphere. I attended a university and then transferred to a Community College to finish my AA. I did not enjoy the classroom atmosphere at community college and am afraid that the Evening Degree will have the same feel- come. sit. listen to middle aged women go off on tangents about their children. leave". No sense of college student community at all.

I have been working toward attending UW for the past three years, and this program would allow me to do that, but it seems it doesn't offer the things I am looking forward to at a university. I have only spoken with one student, an older lady who said she "loved it because there were "no self entitled teenage brats like the regular day program". It was pretty discouraging to hear.

The one thing I am excited about is studying abroad, which you can do as a normal student, but also applying again to transfer into the day program. I do realize that I'd be seen as a regular junior university transfer so my chances would be slim to none. Does anyone have any advice or experience about this program?
