I am applying for the second time to the U of Washington. I applied for the fall of this year but was rejected. My GPA was lower and I did not have as many credits. I now have a 3.098 GPA and 48 credits. I am studying sociology and wish to transfer there for the same program. I am taking a semester off as I foolishly did not apply to any other colleges for this semester. So I plan to try again.

I am a 24 (25 in September) year old Hispanic male. I am a high school dropout and a sophomore in college. My GPA is a 3.098 (when I applied last time it was a 2.87). I am really hoping to transfer out of here and think that the U of WA might be just the place. I have 48 credits and want to try again. Do you think my chances have gone up? I will rewrite my essay to inform them that I have worked harder and brought up my GPA. I also do not have the language requirement met. The problem being that the languange I am interested in pursuing was not offered at my current college (Arabic). I can hopefully explain that to them. I am also able to secure a letter of recommendation or 2 if I am lucky. I will have the teacher mail them for me. Both letters are from my proffesors and both are in the Sociology department.

Thanks to all who respond. I am really hoping to transfer and U of WA was my first choice and I think I should follow my gut and apply again.

It's difficult to determine if you can get into UW (bothel, seattle, or tacoma). have you completed the core requirements since you did not finish HS? In addition to the core requirements, have you completed or are in the process of completing the prereqs for your intended major?

If you have met UW's requirements and can statify the comprehensive review assesment, then apply again. You have nothing to lose. Your GPA is above the minimum, but your essay will be the pivotal element in you getting admitted.

I am not 100% sure what the core requirements are. I believe that I need to get one more semester of language in but I wanted to take that there. Other than that I am not sure.

They're basically courses you should have completed from HS, such as 4 years of Engl, 3 years of Math, etc etc. The reason I asked is because you said that you didn't finish HS. Did you get your GED though?

Anyways, the link above will help you complete UW's transfer requirements.

I been thinking of moving to Seattle for a year and attending a community college for a semester. Then transfering with 60 or so credits (12 or so from the community college and 48 from SIU). I would go to the community college while working so I could qualify for in state tuition.

I really am unhappy here and want to start over completely. Do you think this would be possible?
