Eventhough UCR seems to be the ugly stepsister of the UC system...

So far I've been accpeted to UCR and UCI.
I applied to other UC's that I am hopeful I will get into, but in the event that I have to choose between UCR and UCI,
I seriously at this point do not know which to choose.
UCR get a bad rap from everyone (probally just because they accept 75% of applicants)
But it sounds like UCI is full of stuck up rich kids.
For one, I HATE the idea of being surrounded by rich people (or people who think they are rich) with little regard to anything but themselves, I really am not comfortable around areas that consist mostly of identical housing tracts, lots of concrete and shopping centers.
I get the feeling Irvine is like this.. maybe Riverside is too?
I don't really know.
I need to go visit, I know, but can anyone maybe touch upon the differences and similarities between Irvine and Riverside?

I don't see where this assumption that UCI is full of rich kids is perpetuated. Most schools will have a few wealthy individuals, although they by no means represent the school as a whole. I mean, UCI is a public school, not USC. People at your school shouldn't be the determining factor of your decision, because you will always be able to find like-minded individuals you can call your friends in a 35,000person campus.

I would say that Riverside's campus is different from what Irvine's is like, but then again, you never specified what kind of surrounding's you're looking for. A lot of the people that went to Riverside would probably have wished to go to Irvine, base your decision on more than just your college experience and into your future as well.

I would totally disagree this

UCR has a lot of rich people too, it's just when you notice or not, matterfact i dont really think UCI is that much good cuz of rich people or not, a college is where you study or making friends not a place to decide whether your next 50 yrs will be a rich man or no, all depending on you, not the school

UCR eventho has lower raking while comparing to other UCs, but some of its programs are actually "better" than UCI, for ex. UCR and UCB are the only two schools offering business Administration, while UCI only has business econ, which is a wasteless major, but UCI has better medical science program,
so if you decide study Business, UCR would be a great choice for you

It also depends on what kind of aid/scholarship each school offers and your financial status.

Also, if you ARE pursuing a medical career, you can consider the UCR pyramid program to potentially get accepted into the UCLA Geffen School of Medicine. Even if you don't make the top 20, your GPA should be sufficient to get into most selective public medical schools (Irvine/SD etc.)

Yeah, UCR is approved to have its own Medical School in 2012.

You may also like to consider the professors/students ratio, availabilities of the professors, help and friendly people around...for example, in UCLA you have to chase the professors around to get their attention (they mainly focus on the research or Grad educations) and people are hardly give you any "help". You are on your own.

Hi Elehmehnohpea. I got into those places too and I am just going to go UCI because it's #44th one, but UCR is the 88th one... CHOOSE UCI!!!!

meh i got into both too but i'm not even considering riverside. it's between irvine and san diego. i really don't wanna go to irvine though because it's too close and that means i have to live at home and miss the whole college experience. if i wanna live at home i'll just go to a community college for the first two years and save money, might as well. lol.

what's your major though, you haven't specified anything.
and i don't think uci is full of rich kids. it does have a huge asian population though.

lollll thatz true. uci does have alot of azns, and if u think bout it, not everyonez rich there. it's just generally the area surrounding UCI is pretty affluent. personally, i wouldn't think it's such a bad thing since you get kick ass shopping malls and sparkling clean restrooms almost everywhere. i like irvine :D but riverside isn't necessarily poor either. i heard it's smack dab rite between the gettos and the rich suburbs. so yeah...personally, i'd probably chose irvine.
