So, as I've gotten accepted to practically every UC except Davis, SD and LA (I got Berkeley for reasons that escape me - I did that simply to see if I could actually get in), I've had to narrow down my choices to satisfy my family as far as cost and relative access is concerned. In fact, I've narrowed it down to UCR and UCI. Now keep in mind that I want to go to law school eventually.

On the one hand, I really like UCR for a lot of reasons. They've given me a decent duo of scholarships totaling at $6,000, and their course offerings seem to be solid. The campus is decent, and if I have to commute it's not against traffic (I'm trying to convince my parents to let me live on-campus either way, but...Asian parents. Nuff said.) Plus, the scholarships I got give me top priority for classes and allow me seminar access with all professors, which I think would help with letters of recommendation later on. Sure, it's a middling school, but I kinda like its status as a quirky upstart. That, and there's somewhat less competition.

On the other hand, my parents really love UCI, firstly, because of its USNWR rankings (did I mention they're Asian? ;) ) and because there are "more Asians and less blacks and Hispanics in Irvine" (they're...old fashioned...when it comes to racial issues, to say the least). Also, they think that a "more brand-name" school will make it easier for me to get into a good law school. On the other hand, from where I live, the traffic to UCI is horrible, and most of the classes, unlike UCR are taught by TA's, not professors.

Either way, my parents are willing to pay for my 4.0 ass to go to college, so long as it's nearby.

So, what's your take on the issue?
