<p>Every year, there are many stories of USAMO, Intel finalists getting rejected from top schools. It’s not too surprising.</p>
<p>The stories of rejection of applicants with amazing accomplishments are not surprising to me: each admission committee is admitting a person, with all of that person’s characteristics, not just setting a threshold of accomplishments for shoo-in status.</p>
