Hi I'm a senior and I've been accepted to Bucknell university. I was wondering if Bucknell is well known in engineering circles. When I tell people I've been accepted to Bucknell, most of them don't recognize it. Is it better to go to a big engineering school with better name recognition like Penn State? Will job prospects be better if I attend a bigger, well known school compared to smaller engineering colleges?

Well it’s ranked #10 on this list so I wouldn’t worry about job prospects.

Bucknell University is a top notch liberal arts school, especially in engineering. Most liberal arts universitys do not have name recognition comparable to large state universities. This does not make Penn State a better college choice then Bucknell because many recruiters and graduate school admission staff know that the average caliber of Bucknell students is a step above the average caliber of Penn State students. I would predict that the post-grad outcomes for Bucknell students would be more impressive then Penn State students.

These schools are very different and each of them have there own advantages and disadvantages. At Bucknell you would have small class sizes and a lot of personal faculty interaction. At Penn State you are more likely to see higher level research but in all likelyhood it will be grad students or PHD students who will have opportunities to become involved with it.
