Everyone always says to show your passion in one area...

...but I was thinking of writing how my passions extend to multiple areas instead, and relating this to my diverse background (raised primarily in two very different countries). Would this be a good essay topic, even if I risk looking too unfocused and if it totally goes against the advice on here?

From what I have read most of such essays are shallow and awfully unconvincing. There are good ones out there (I wrote one myself, and apparently my college of choice liked it), so I would suggest just write a draft and see where the essay is going before choosing between singular specific passion vs. interdisciplinary passion.

IMO, a better essay would be one on how despite your diverse background, you have found common experiences in these two different countries that have led you to develop your passion in one specific field that has broader implications

Yea, I think with the word limit imposed, it’s better to expand on one area, rather than spread yourself too thin. Consider yourself lucky, though! Many people would wish they had more than one passionate topic to write about!

Pear, it all depends on how your essay “reads”. You can have numerous passions (acting, music, dancing) but you can still find one theme (performing on stage, for instance). So, try to put it all in writing, and see how clear you kept a singular message, while using varied examples.

^^Woo nooooo. Varied examples kill.
