I’m a high school senior who is considering the possibility of becoming an actuary. However, I have a few concerns.Firstly, I’m wondering if it makes the exams easier if one majors in actuarial science rather than math. Secondly, how good at math do you have to be to be an actuary. I got a 680 on the math section of this SAY. In all of my math classes thus far(up to pre-calculus,) I’ve gotten high 90s. Yet, I still don’t know if I have what it takes to be an actuary. Thirdly, if any actuaries are viewing this, do you enjoy your job? What are your favorite and least favorite things about it? I have heard things about every actuary hating their job, although the money is good. Thank you in advance for the help, it is greatly appreciated!
Actuarial science majors function as a convenient checklist of courses to prepare for actuarial exams and careers, but these courses can be taken in the context of any other major (commonly math or statistics).
Yes, you do need to be good at math for actuarial work.
