Everything about choate

But info think robotics is also winter, as the kids were talking about their recent achievements at revisit day. It is winter for our MS.

I do not know about it. Have him contact people ahead of the activities fair. Did he connect at revisit day? DD spoke to three prospective coaches and is on mailing lists, getting info and welcomes, etc. Helps her feel more a part of everything, like it won’t be so “new.” Just an idea.

Is Choate having an open house anytime soon?/Where do you find that info? How is the soccer team and track team at Choate? Do they have indoor track?

@njohns: Go onto the website of all of the schools you are interested in and do research. AFTER getting some information, then come onto this website and ask questions that cannot be found on the school websites. AOs expect you to do your research on the schools using all of the tools available to you.

@njohns- we were discussing what we learned and who we connected with at the student activities fair during revisit day at Choate. That being said, if you are interested in specifics about Choate/Open House events for next year’s admission cycle, you should complete an online interest form which is available on their website. I believe in the form you can check off that you are interested in soccer, etc. so you will start receiving emails from those teams and about Admission events in the Fall. Hope that this helps you!

What’s the dating/party scene like at Choate? I don’t plan on going to choate or any hs in general largely based on this. i’m commited to my academics and ECs first and foremost,but i would like to have a decent social life and maybe a bf if I want. :)>-

I don’t know if someone already asked this, but how hard is it to get into one of the ensembles as a freshman?

Found out that religious classes for Confirmation are EVERY Sunday. They are usually every other week at the local churches. That is all I have so far.

@hopefulprep01

For instrumental ensembles: Wind Ensemble (woodwind, brass, percussion) and String Orchestra (strings) accept basically all advanced beginners and up (a.k.a. as long as you know how to play). Symphony Orchestra (which is the really good, travel-around-the-world orchestra) is much harder to get into, but I think the decision is less based on grade level and more your playing ability.

For vocal ensembles: Festival Chorus, to the extent of my knowledge, accepts everyone. Chamber Chorus is reasonably difficult to get into.

I am in Wind Ensemble, so if you have any more questions, please feel free!

@KimberlyLaila

I’m not sure if I’m the best source on this, since I’m the watch TV and get takeout on the weekends type, but I’ll try…

You can definitely balance academic and social life. I know many people (and many of them are extremely dedicated to academics, sports, extra-curriculars, etc.) who date; there’s no pressure in either direction. I wouldn’t say there’s much of a “party” scene… (not entirely sure what you mean by that) We have SAC (student activity center) dances every two weeks or so and formal dances a couple times a year. Of course there are many, many other social events as well.

Perhaps someone else will be able to give you more insight, but I did not want your question to go unanswered :slight_smile:

What is the best band that an alto-sax can join?

@weiqian, thanks for the music info! Do you happen to know anything about how hard it is to get into the Jazz ensemble? Also, which instruments qualify for it? Thanks!

@madswimmer132 Symphony Orchestra or Jazz Ensemble, I think. Or you could also try out for Arts Concentration later in the year.

@itcannotbetrue Hmm, I’m honestly not sure of specifics. Saxophones, most brass, percussion, electric guitar? Probably a few others I missed as well. I’m not sure how difficult it is to get in.

Is the ice rink open year round or is it just open during winter term?

So DD just completed her last placement test. How many of you took the version A test for Math? version B for Math? Also, for version B (for those who are studying Algebra 2) what percentage is needed to get into Algebra 2 Honors?

Yield at Choate this year is 66%.

Hi this may sound like a bit of a silly question but I would like to know: what kind of bags/backpacks do most kids tend to have at Choate? I will be attending this fall and as the school year finishing my shopping will soon begin! Thanks!

Does anyone know what percentages qualify you for a certain math class? I took the B level placement test, but I don’t really know where my score puts me…

Good question. From what I understand, they also take into consideration grades, the teacher rec, and quant SSAT scores.

I have no idea on the backpacks (surely a Choatie could answer this better!), but I can tell you that Herschel backpacks seem really popular in general right now.
