I know there is no clear answer, but this is quite a stress recently.

I'm a freshman at a California CC but not in-state student. Somehow I screwed up and get a C in Calculus class, main major requirement for my EECS. I plan to apply for UC Berkeley and Cornell C of Engineering and may be other hard schools, but now people keep "advice" me basically I'm next to hopeless because of the common "everything Bs and above, especially major requirements". I understand C grade really hurts my apps, but is it that bad? Of course I don't have incredible award or activities to make a special case.

My case:
GPA: current 3.54, but I believe I can get 3.8 or 3.7 by the end of fall.
Pretty heavy workload, all English and most Math are Honors, finish all requirements by fall.
Part-time jobs: peer-to-peer tutoring and other craps.
Recs: normal, hopefully will increase
ECs: currently nothing deals with engineering >.<. PTK local officer (if they don?t kick me out because of low GPA), club council member, regular member of some clubs, may be student senate in the future, school vocal band. Some high school awards in vocal music and social sciences. Second place in state college debate, but novice level though :).

Counselor told me if I change major to communication of sth like that, transferring will be very smooth, but I only want EE CS engineering :D.
Again, I know a C in Calculus is very bad, but do I still have a (head)shot at Cornell C of Engineering? Cornell is my first choice. Chance for Berkeley Engineering seems tiny.

Thanks
