Exceeded 12GB ResComp limit for the first time...

Do I have to take the quiz, or can I just wait until Monday? It's already 12:50AM and I still can't use my connection...Can I "save" the quiz for another time?

you can just not take the quiz and save it for next time.

How are you posting here without internet?

You don’t have to take the quiz, but if you don’t you’ll have to live with 7 kb/s wireless for the rest of your stay. I learned the hard way after internet didn’t come back on Monday after two painful days of a hobson’s choice between limited wireless and tethering.

I’m using the wireless network in my room (which is attached to my roommate’s account) rather than my Ethernet connection.

^Soooo…are you saying I have to? It’s 1:30 now. Still no go.

No, I’m not saying that. If you don’t, you just won’t get your normal internet connection reenabled.

(Okay, fine, I am essentially saying that ;))

Dude, I have used at least 14GB this week. Rescomp says I’ve used 2GB. Not complaining but something’s wrong with their system …

back in the dorms last year, i went over the limit like EVERY week. it was really sad. never did anything, never had anything done to me. life went on.

When I was in the dorms, there was a point when I kept exceeding the limit within a few days or less despite only using the internet to check email and browse websites without downloading anything. Rescomp installed a bandwidth usage monitor thing on my computer and it turns out Firefox was having some major issues and was eating all my bandwidth when I had it running. They unbanned me every time it happened but I suppose mine was an exceptionally weird case.

You must take the quiz to have your internet reenabled…

Decimal: I’m surprised that they unbanned you each time. The bandwidth was coming from your laptop and it affects the enjoyment of ResComp internet by everyone else. There’s only a limited amount to go around, and after seeing the network maps, the 12GB is plenty. In fact, 8GB/wk is actually the fair share, but since not all people use all 8GB (most humanities majors would be hard-pressed to exceed 2GB), you get 12GB so it averages out to approximately 8GB/person-wk.

No, you can’t save the quiz for another time. Plus, if it took you this long before you had your accident, chances are, it won’t happen too often.

Wait why didn’t they reset it last night? I noticed I had 2gb on Saturday, so on Sunday I started downloading podcasts, and then I got up to 8gb but it didn’t reset like it was supposed to.

I don’t think 4gb thru next Sunday is going to be possible. I hope they noticed they forgot to reset it and do so soon.

Ramblinman, go tell them.

excelblue: Oh, they only had to unban me a few times. Once they figured out what the problem was, I think I just uninstalled Firefox and reinstalled it and everything went back to normal. It would have been pretty bad if it was happening like every few days for the rest of the time that I was there.
