Exceeding "My Colleges" list on Common App, help!

Hi everyone,

Basically, I'm in a situation where applying to more than the usual number of colleges would be beneficial. I'm adding colleges to the "My Colleges" list on the Common App, and I wish to add more but it says I've exceeded the limit. What does this mean if I want to apply to more colleges? Do I just copy everything and submit the Common App via paper to the additional schools?

Thanks so much!

Just how many colleges are you applying to anyway? o.O

Hm… I’ve never heard of this happening. I feel like adding colleges to mine just to find the limit, but I think I’ll hold back.

Yeah, maybe submit them as paper copies. Or can you add more colleges after you submit some (like in your first round of applications)?

You can make a duplicate application. some kids do this as they fill in some questions differently for different schools. Or send one group in now and one later. Just go to the instructions on the common app site and it tells you how to duplicate your application.

I think if he/she’s exceeding the number of apps allowed on the CA, he/she’s applying to more than 20 schools.

The question is… why would you apply to more than 20 schools?!

It’s quite possible nowadays. Take a high-achieving student, who wants to go into the medical field. Let’s say he/she applys to all/most of the Ivies, plus all the BS/MD programs out there, and then add in the match and safety schools.

Even today, we might have to pick out a few more safety schools. Our state flagship schools are certainly getting more competitive.

Why would you apply to all the Ivies unless you were a prestige monster? They’re all diverse - for example: some are in the city, some are in a suburban environment, and some are even in the country - and they all have a different feel.

Wow a lot more responses than I thought and the advice is all humbling.

I’m not trying to go med, but I was potentially attending an Ivy school until some disciplinary incident interfered with my prep school and they take things far too seriously and at times fear the tarnishing of their reputation over that of a student’s education.

I don’t see the harm in applying to more since I enjoy writing and the essays I’ve completed so far weren’t a hassle. What is this duplicating my apps procedure? I’m guessing submitting the additional ones via paper will be the simplest way.

Thanks a ton guys, if anyone else is applying this year I wish you the very best.

Those application fees and score report fees are going to add up fast

I mean, there are a ton of prestige “monsters” out there, so if they just want an acceptance from ANY Ivy, then they would apply to a lot of them, because the deferral rate is very high.

addubs…
If you send paper apps to some schools, what will you do about the school forms… arnet they uploaded on your online account??
Just wondering coz even i have to apply …

bump! crap, i did not even notice this problem. Please, does anyone have any advice? Please, please, do not give me advice on why 20 schools is bad-first i cannot even delete any so thats not an option and second-I applied to ba/md programs (like SLU, St. bonaventure, lehigh-random schools like this)-so it filled up and I did not even notice it.

okay, never mind! I fiound out how to delete two to add-so 18 schools are now on my list-
