Anyone heard from Pogue yet? Invitation said would hear by Feb 25; no email or snail mail yet.

Does anyone know how many in-state people got this offer over out of state?

i was accepted RD and just got this notification today! anyone know how likely it is that you’ll get more than one of your picks? i’m mainly interested in assured admit to kenan-flagler, honors carolina, and the study abroad scholarship.

^I got Honors Carolina, Chancellor’s Science Finalist (finalization is April 1 I believe), and Assured Admission to KF, so it’s possible to get multiple ones this year. I also got the chance to talk to a few students from past years who wound up with 4 of their choices.

So, have the excel at carolina for RD gone out? Does not receiving one mean that you can’t be part of the honors college?

Also, is the excel at carolina notification an email or a letter?

@skeezeyj when did you hear from the honors program? I got the excel email with ea applicants and havent heard from anything yet

I heard from Honors shortly after attending Scholarship Day (i.e., before the EA Excel@Carolina emails went out). I listed it on my top 5 list just to be safe, though.

@mmrrhh It’s both–the email should come first followed by a letter.

I’m having trouble prioritizing my list. I’m not interested in any of the assured acceptance programs as they are unrelated with what I want to do. Which of these opportunities are the most difficult to get should you not select them for Excel? I’m interested in science research, as well as studying abroad, public service, and seminars/guest lectures so I’m in a tough place to rank them!

I’m OOS and was not offered Honors or anything else. I might choose another school where I stand out better and am not just part of the"masses". Congrats to all those who received this offer. Just curious, does anyone know what criteria UNC uses to offer Honors or excel?

Do we have to give 5 choices, or can we give 3?

Daughter accepted into Chancellor’s Science Scholar program. Got the email yesterday. Likely to accept. One other offer is as appealing, but will definitely decide in the next week. Wondering what others with similar dilemma will do…

Hi CANCmom. Congratulations for your Daughter. What do you get for that program? I had read that it was a scholarship of several thousand plus you get to go to Chapel Hill six weeks or so early this summer…

The Chancellor’s Science Scholar program gives $10,000 and asks that you come to UNC for several weeks where they take Calculus and a communications class.

It includes the summer program and a scholarship, but the program also has monthly/bimonthly (forgot what they said) meetings directed toward involvement in research, internships, tutoring, etc, as well as a $5,000 research grant for use in a later summer. The materials packet comes early next week so we can probably post more detail later.

Very nice. Congrats.

Now if only she could decide. It’s between that and Webb Institute. Love both offers and must decide by 4/5. Any help/suggestions needed!

I would focus on which one of them would give your D the best job prospects after graduation.

Then the question becomes…graduating with a BS or a Ph.D.?! Oh, if only they knew at 17!

I work as an Engineer in the automotive sector. I know that female Engineers are very sort after. There is a very good chance of doing very well. i had never heard of the Webb Institute (not suprising since I am not from the US). Is there a good future for marine Engineering?
