Exchange at Ole Miss?

Hi all,

I potentially have the opportunity to complete a semester exchange in the fall of next year, and have circled Ole Miss as a potential university I’d consider attending. I live and study in Melbourne, Australia and my university has an exchange connection with Ole Miss. I’m a big college football fan and love watching Ole Miss football, but I also love watching and following American sports. As I live in Australia, I obviously cannot the visit the campus and have little knowledge about what it’s like living in Oxford and studying at Ole Miss (I study exercise science for reference). I’m also a bit nervous about the social aspect of it all, as I’ll be in a completely new environment on my own. Just want peoples thoughts on whether I should pick Ole Miss and why or why not. I’m 19 and a male.

Thanks in advance!

It’d be a great experience, especially if you like football. Ole Miss has a reputation for conservatism compared to many campuses (although it’s likely less conservative than most of Mississippi, especially in its latest incarnation whereby attending college is a huge political differentiator). It’s more traditional in dress than some other campuses and not as much into pronoun-choice and gender-neutral bathrooms [aka., “gender equality”, topics many American college students currently care about, alongside racial tensions]. They have a terrific honors college. Oxford is a nice college town and if you can spend a semester there without too much trouble, I’d definitely go with it!
