Hi,
I am currently studying engineering at the University of Waterloo (in Canada) and I'm planning on going on exchange to Hong Kong (more specifically, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology). Does anyone know how the workload in Hong Kong compares to the workload in North America?

Also, for those who may be familiar with Hong Kong, does anyone know what the student life is like at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST)? From the website, it seems like it's very friendly and lively (many clubs and activities, etc...). Is this true? And how accessible is downtown (the tourist area) from HKUST?

Same here. I am planning on getting my master in HKUST. I was wondering, do I need a GRE or some sort of other examination? how hard is it to get there? is it competitive?

I don't know about HKUST's graduate program's selectivity. But I'd say that Hong Kong U.'s undergraduate program is easy to get in if you are American (maybe international). I know a few US PR easily get there.

I have never been in HKUST. But HKU is filled with mainland Chinese nowadays and they are quite hardworking. Some exchange students from elite Chinese universities like Fudan and Zhejiang U. are complaining about being a little hard to get grades above B+.

this is just from my american friends who studied abroad in hong kong... hkust was relatively easy, but hku was pretty difficult for a study abroad program. hkust is pretty far from downtown though, whereas hku is really close. not sure about hkust student life, but hku has the residence hall system where you have a lot of activities with people in your hall.
