My son has recently been honored with two really neat distinctions in our city/state.

But, he has already finished his app and sent his resume. How do we let the school know about this new information? Should he just type up a letter or something?

I suggest that he send the info in a letter, and make sure that it includes whatever application ID the college assigned to him, and what he is applying to: i.e. freshman admission , Engineering School, etc.

Sending such updates is good for all students to do if they get any honors/awards/major achievements after submitting their application.

AG54 - Your son can send in a letter with the update to the schools he applied to ... enclose a self-addressed postcard with each letter to confirm receipt. (That's a good CC tip that my kids used for all of their applications.)

CONGRATS to your son!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This happened when my son was applying two years ago, and we sent updates with all of his student info. on it! Every little bit helps, esp. when that little bit shows continued efforts in the senior year when many kids are getting hit with senioritis! :) Tell your son WAY TO GO from me, o.k.?

From what you wrote, it sounds like you already are, but make sure you send in updates by regular (snail) mail. When I applied two years ago, I sent in updates about the Siemens-Westinghouse competition and some colleges wouldn't accept any additional information sent by email.
