Hey guys. So I am applying for Exeter for Fall 2018. I got a 91 percentile on my SSAT. I did really well on my interview and essays. He only problem is that my transcript is a B+. I am learning Latin and Ancient Greek, I do research on various historical topics (I have my own research site), I participate in community service and organised a big event where we helped on 1000 people. I went to Oxford Royale Academy in Oxford University this summer for a course in Law and Leadership. I was the president of my school history club for 7th and 8th grades. I am Pakistani and I live in south Texas. I also know one of the Classics teachers in Exeter personally. So do you think my transcript will hurt me?
I hope you are applying to other schools? Yes I think your grades and your SSAT hurts you as they are both below average for the school. What else do you? By the way I would be saying the same thing if you were applying to Choate, Andover, Groton etc. @momof3swimmers I dont think OP qualifies as URM and 91 is below the average for Exeter–not ideal if they are strictly an academic applicant. (no a 91 wont keep anyone out)
I think you should be in touch with the people in the classics dept and if you are interested in Exeter’s classical diploma, speak to that. Also you have being a URM and geographic diversity on your side. Yes, your average is on the lower end, but not out of the realm of possibility. For SSATs, we were told a minimum of high 80s is what they like to see. They prefer them higher but a 91 won’t keep you out.
But I agree with @Center I hope you are applying to other schools. Exeter and all the other selective schools are just that…SELECTIVE.
Yeah I’m applying to 7 schools (Exeter, Andover, Lawrenceville, Concord, The Hill School, Hotchkiss, Milton). But I don’t think grades should be that big of a problem. I applied last year as well and they told me that the reason I couldn’t get in was my SSAT score. It was 20 last year and 90 this year.
@RuleBritannia_1 okay then --I guess you are all set.
