when people say Exeter is hard to get in, are they exaggerating or not?
what is the acceptance ratio average?
around 2000 people apply and 500 get accepted, and they say it's around 21%

Try this website for stats: Boarding School Review - College-Prep & Jr. Boarding Schools

Good luck! I'm applying, too, so I'll have my fingers crossed for both of us. :)

Thanks. i've already seen it though :P
Thanks again! :) I hope we both get in! but then i'm very nervous cuz 20% doesn't seem like a lot of people out of all the good applications they get.
And i haven't done my interview yet.......... and haven't gotten SSAT yet........ so I'M NERVOUS!! and a lot of people on this site seem to be very good applicants and some of them get rejected

Sorry that the website wasn't any help.
I'm doing my interview later this month.
Here are my scores, if you're curious;

verbal: 780, percentile 98%
math: 800, percentile 99%
reading: 760, percentile 98%

I'm FREAKISHLY nervous, too. My uncle, whose son is a senior at Exeter, calls nearly every day with a new piece of advice. I'm almost scared when I see his name on the Caller ID...it makes me feel even more nervous. But I digress.

Good luck!!!!!!!

(Excuse my overuse of the exclamation marks.)

Wow. that's good, isn't it?
how many questions did you omit and get wrong?
haha, i wouldn't mind getting advice from someone, cuz they're only trying to help, lol
any interview tips?

Also, if the schools are really competetive as they seem when you apply, then why are there some kids that need to drop out because of drug usage and all that other stuff?? How do they get IN the first place?

I'm just scared of what his reaction will be if I don't get in...

Anyways, I've heard this advice about interviews from various sources:
*Be confident--not timid or overly eager.
*Be frank--don't make up things just to make yourself sound better, becuz you will only sound worse.

And keep in mind that your appearance will make a big impression.

What grade, and schools, are you applying to, anyways?

I guess a lot of "that stuff" might have to do with stress. They might not be able to handle all the work and all that jazz...

I'm not sure. It sounds like we need more people in this thread. :)

Oh, i was thinking of being overly eager,, i thought it would look better
i'm only applying to Exeter, haven't had much time in a one week's notice.
for the 10th grade. You?

haha, i know :)
i just don't understand! how can a competetive school have kids that are on drugs and stuff, but then they are accepted when there are so many more better candidates to choose from that are willing to do better..

I'm applying for the 9th grade. My uncle had me send in requests for information in July when I visited--I had no plans for applying, so that kind of caught me off guard, but now I've really gotten into it. I'm applying to: Exeter, Andover, Choate, Hotchkiss, St. Paul's, and Loomis. The Andover vs. Exeter debate is rather interesting to me.

I'm going off on tangents again...lol

Have you already sent in your application? Considering the deadline was last Tuesday.

I think having kids on drugs and crap has to do with the amount of competition and stress involved--does that make sense at all?

ooh, i c..
being international, i couldn't visit T__T, and i turned in my applications like 2 days before the deadline, btw, how did you send in you application stuff? in one big envelople or small seperate ones?
yea, it does make sense i guess.. that's kinda sad though.
what is your first choice?

I sent my stuff in as I got it done, so basically in a bunch of small envelopes.

As for my first choice, I can't decide between Exeter and Andover, although I am leaning a bit more towards Exeter (my cousin's influence). :)

Btw, what country are you in? (don't answer this if you'd rather not)

Uhhhhhhhh . i think i'm at a disadvantage cuz i'm in Asia where they are really overly represented. and i'm at a public school ( not exactly international )
I sent mine in a big envelope...... i thought they wanted it that way cuz this is my first time applying and i had no idea;; oh well..

I agree with you--it feels like Asians (like you) and Asian Americans (like me) are overly represented. And at times, stereotyped as necessarily being extraordinarily smart, just because a lot of Asian parents put a big emphasis on studies.

Do you mind if I add you to my buddy list?
I just joined today, so I don't have any buddies. :(

And about what you said earlier about being overly eager...my uncle said that being overly eager tells the admissions officers that you're covering up your nervousness and all that jazz.

I KNOW!! almost all the kids spend their whole day studying till 11 o clock with tutors. haha, smart. :P yea, some of them are. i feel sorry how they are pushed towards studying even if they don't like it.
i'm also asian american going to a military public school. lol
no, i don't mind you adding me, lol; i don't have any buddies, hehe, i joined in january too :)

I feel incredibly fortunate when I compare a typical day in my life to a typical day in the lives of my cousins in India. They're like constantly studying and stuff, whereas I actually have time to breathe.

haha, that's the same with my cousins and friends that live here.
how do you add a person, lol?
i can't stop thinking about Exeter, i don't know what kind of kids they accept, except well-rounded students. lol

I am so scared about Exeter.
My brother's best friend went to Exeter, and he told me that he had a great time there...

I doubt that I will get in though, but I will keep my fingers crossed.
=]

Did you guys send in good applications?
