Is it weird that I haven't got a math placement test yet?
I am a sophmore for this year

You probably should have gotten yours over a month ago…

@Tom, respond to my pm I don’t know whats going on

@vk, i’m an incoming prep at exeter I haven’t received one either. I think if your in the lower math levels they don’t send you one, all my friends in higher levels have gotten one just not the ones in the same one as me.

Hi Tom. Welcome back! Done with your finals?

I think you only get a math placement at Exeter if you try to enroll in the top class- Transition 23 X I think it is? I don’t have the form nearby… Otherwise you just register based on what you took already at your old school and your ssat scores using the directions they sent to you. So no worries!

er… you should probably have gotten it if you’ve registered for the highest class in transition 2.
um, for some reason, i did that and then i realized my math ssat wasn’t high enough but i still got it.
i think it was because i was in a weird accelerated math class at my old school.
but you should’ve gotten it a month ago or so via e-mail.

I signed up for the one with a year of algebra and a year of geometry with good problem solving. If it wasn’t for my ssat score (87%), I would have done the higher level.

jasmyn: Thanks for the info , does lion links also tell you which language level you placed into? I’ll have to have son check his account tomorrow.

Hi istoleyournose, watertester, yes, I’m finished with my finals =) Nice to be back.

P-AC, I’m not jasmyn but lionlinks tells me my language level =)

Yeah mine tells me too I can’t believe I’m in transition 1 spanish I could only fill out like two sections.

do you guys know if transition 2 math is pretty hard?

That probably all depends on you as a student :)

Can anyone tell me the difference between Integrated math and transition 2? Like which one is more difficult?

vk77 : sounds like you signed up for the same thing as my son. MAT 21T which is the middle level so no test required. (test required for the highest one)

xoxohersheykiss: sounds like your mistake lucked you out and now you’re in the highest level of transition 2. How hard was the test for that level? Son had stats very similar to yours but we didn’t try to test up into the next level… does lion links tell you if you stayed in that level after the testing? I emailed the head of the math dept and he said transition 2 highest level is pretty difficult and they only select one section of kids for that and they are those with exceptional backgrounds and test scores.

Just had son check lionlinks and he placed in intermediate chinese , he’s happy about that placement.

Yup,your math and language placements are on lion links (:

cal dreams: integrated math is the regular exeter math, transition classes are for new students and are meant to ease you into the way of doing math at exeter. So I would say transition classes are in general “easier” in that they are transitioning you into the way they teach math at exeter. So you will be in a transition class the first trimester and then integrated math the 2nd and 3rd trimester.

how important is the original math placement? Is there movement after they see the students for a year or do they tend to get lockstepped?

I had a very nice email discussion with the math dept head, there is actually movement after they see the students the first trimester and it seems there is room for movement after almost every trimester for students to accelerate/decelerate as needed. I was really impressed. If you look in the course descriptions it does describe it to some degree. It will say something like: MAT22T promotes to math 220 or 23X ect.ect…
