@Center I have certaintly read the ebook and the courses of instructions cover to cover, as well as combing throught the exeter website. I already know that there is no “official” activity for horseback riding, its just that I heard somewhere that there is a club or an “unofficial” horseback riding activity offered. I just want to know for sure…
@Anonymousia I have several friends that horseback ride, so I’m sure that there are places nearby to do so on the weekends. Most people do activities like that over breaks.
You get your adviser when you get your dorm, I believe, so in late August.
I’m not sure when you’re supposed to check in, but in the summer, a schedule will come out that outlines that information.
@MAandMEmom It may look like a super long day at first, but after every two classes, there is an hour break. This breaks up the day pretty well. Also, sports are included in the schedule (they take a up two periods right next to each other, usually GH or EF), so it’s not as long as it looks.
@waterpololover thanks so much. My son liked the schedule. He feels it’s built in time to review, get organized etc. plus sports are built in. Now he is 8 to 230 then sports… It’s no different in overall time.
@waterpololover is there a photography club? I know, I HAVE checked the Exeter website, but I didn’t see anything about it and I know there are there many clubs that aren’t on the website… Or, is there a link to a list of all the clubs?
@Anonymousia There is a club called “Photo Exeter.” I assume that is a photography club.
@Anonymousia The school is absolutely crap with updating it’s Club list, but a current student would know. As a general rule of thumb, Exeter has more clubs than they advertise, so the club you want will probably exist.
As I said, its on the list of hundreds of clubs
I’m not sure if there’s a photography club (but there are hundreds, so I’m sure there is somewhere), but many photographers join PEAN (yearbook) or the Exonian (newspaper) and take photos for these publications.
Thanks guys!! I just have a few more qs:
Can I pay the art course fees with my $900 stipend?
How much gaming/netflix is “allowed”? My mom heard about a student who was kicked out for pulling an all-nighter to play games (although this story is probably false)…
Thanks again!!
@Anonymousia I’m not sure about the art course payments. I think the stipend is only for things you can buy in the bookstore. Contact the Director of Financial Aid for a better answer (PM me and I’ll give you a name and email).
There is no rule on gaming and netflix use. A student would not get kicked out for doing that, but if there was extreme gaming or internet addiction, a student might go on med leave.
I’m currently choosing courses as a 9th grader. I heard some people say it’s better to leave religion for senior year? Is that true? What would you recommend I pick to fulfill requirements?
You need 2 religion courses at Exeter minimum I beleive. It really depends on your interest in religion. You have the opportunity to take higher level courses that are only open to upper grades if you wait.
My best advice is to take a history or religion elective in your prep fall- since this is s pass/ fail trimester- take a class that is traditionally more difficult for many to adjust to Harkness.
@hemingwayman It really does depend. I personally did all of my history and religion requirements lower year ( I was a new lower) so that I could take more math and science electives as a senior. However, if you are really interested in religion, you could put them off until senior year (like @vegas1 said). One thing to keep in mind is that there are many amazing classes only open to seniors, and you might not want to get stuck filling a requirement instead of taking a cool senior study that you’re actually interested in.
@waterpololover is there a limit to how many pages one can print from one of the school printers?
@Anonymousia nope. no limit.
2 more questions:
- What’s laundry fee for washing + drying?
- For a girl, what the average amount of tops (blouses, dress shirts, etc.) would you recommend?
- Right now it's $1.75 for washer and then $1.75 for dryer (so $3.50 total) (WHICH IS RIDICULOUS). Hopefully it doesn't go up again (it did the last two summers).
- Personally, I have like 15 total of basic shirts (collared and v necks), a few cardigans and a bunch of sweaters (like 10+) but it really depends on the person. If you get to school and find you need more, there's a campus thrift shop called the Exeter Exchange where you can buy more clothes for cheap (only $1 each), or you can buy stuff online or on weekends or breaks.
@waterpololover
Hey! Do you mind if I ask how many pants, skirts, and dresses you keep as well? And jackets… I’m from a different climate and am boarding in NE next year (I’m totally confused). I would love an estimate on the amount of clothes I should bring!
@Cadensa umm I have two jackets, one winter coat and one rain coat plus a bunch of thin zip ups amd flannels for when it’s only a little chilly. As for pants, I think I have 7 pairs total You dont have to wash them every time you wear them, so you dont have to have too many. I don’t wear skirts and dresses often, but I have maybe 5 sundresses I use for different events and the same amount of skirts, and I also have several sets of shorts for the fall and spring. A lot of people have way more clothes than I do but others have less, so it all depends.
The reason why Exeter hasn’t been updating it’s clubs list is because they’re currently making a new website that will be up and running (hopefully) later on this year. We also have clubs popping up every year, sometimes each term. I’m sure that once our new website is up, the club list will be updated regularly, so the rule of thumb that you suggested only applies to Exeter temporarily. By the time you enter, the site will probably be up, if not then it will be close to premiering.
