Question About Exeter Recs

I'm not sure about this for Exeter, but I know Groton has this rule: if it's a form that you or your parent don't fill out, it's okay if you don't send it in by the deadline.

Is it the same for Exeter? There's been ice on the roads all week and there has been no school, so I've been unable to get my EC rec for Exeter. Is it okay if I send it in about a week or a bit less later?

Don’t stress about 3rd party rec’s - just get them in as soon as you’re able to.

Ubi: Is there any way you can get hold of your teacher/coach/??? by email? Downtimes are a great time to fill out recommendation forms.

All right, thanks, Dodgersmom. I hope it won’t affect my application. Though nothing I can really do about it now, so might as well not wrack my brain over it. ;)

Ubi: Do you mean get as in to send on to the school? Or get as in ask the person to write.

If it’s the former, the recommender should be sending the recommendation to the school not you. If the latter, as a person who writes recs., I’d strongly recommend that you figure out a way to contact the recommender and ask for for the recommendation now. It’s never a good idea to ask for a recommendation and then say, “Oh and it’s late, so could you do it today?”

I guess I’m missing something here–I don’t understand why you have to be out on the roads to get this done, or why there’s nothing you can do about it now.

I think YellowUbi intends to hand deliver the form to their teacher, but as there’s been no school, they haven’t been able to get it there.

Exeter has an electronic request option, though, you could send an email asking for a rec and then send it to them electronically

I don’t think schools will be reading apps this weekend. So, if a rec from a third party arrives a day late, don’t sweat it.

The issue isn’t the teacher sending the recommendation late as I see it; it’s asking for a recommendation at the last minute (or if you’ve already asked, handing the form over at the last minute); telling the teacher it was due yesterday (particularly on the first busy day back from school being off for a while); and expecting to get a great recommendation. Asking by email–if it allows the teacher a bit of breathing room–is almost certainly going to get the student better results.
