My child has been offered admissions to both of these schools. We are planning on revisiting both of them, and he/she will have to decide which is a better fit. But we as parents are trying to get the feel as to what makes them different. Our chid is a pretty decent athlete and has been in contact with several coaches at both schools. I guess we are trying to determine how these schools are viewed by people familiar with them. Is one more conservative or liberal? Is one more serious or challenging? Is one more highly regarded than the other by a college AO? Is one more permissive than the other?
We have friends with kids at both, and I’d say that they are pretty different, which will hopefully be more clear to you when you revisit - thus making your decision easier We didn’t look at either, but anecdotally SPS is smaller, more traditional. Both are equally serious/challenging & highly regarded by colleges. Be sure to ask specific questions about playing time, JV vs V, impact of PGs etc. at both schools. You need to understand where your kid will fall in the spectrum of the other athletes - will he/she be the only Freshman on the team? will he/she not make varsity until Jr/Sr year because of other existing players? At revisits, ask current students plenty of these questions and you’ll probably find that one is a better fit. Congratulations!
