Expanding my studies in Classical Guitar.

Hi, I’m a rising 10th grader and have been playing classical guitar for 6 years now. In playing this long, the only real performance I’ve participated in was through NYSSMA (New York State School Music Association) which has been great, don’t get me wrong, I do well, but I would like to expand on my studies. Whether it be through summer programs or out of school classes, I would just like more opportunities to a) play in a more professional setting, and b) start tailoring my studies to meet with “impressive” college standards (Ivys) as in what exactly are colleges looking for in my musical experience besides how long I’ve been playing. Any suggestions?

Can you find a local restaurant or club to play in? That’s what my husband did when he was a student. He made some decent money.

You are probably not yet old enough for this, but here is a possibility for the future.

There is also the Aspen Festival, but it is also aimed at somewhat older players.

Do you have a teacher? He or she should be able to offer some suggestions. If you are near a university that offers classical guitar a professor/instructor might also have some ideas.

I would suggest posting this question on the music majors forum. There are many knowledgeable folks there.
